Glass-lined tanks resist corrosion well while the lining is intact and the anode rod is doing its job – which is precisely why the anode rod is the component worth inspecting on any AO Smith that has been in service several years without a check. Once that rod is spent, the protection it provides to the lining stops, and the tank becomes the part at risk.
