A microwave that has stopped heating is one of those faults that disrupts a kitchen out of all proportion to the size of the appliance. The good news is that most LG and Samsung microwave problems are repairable, often at a fraction of replacement cost, and usually in a single doorstep visit. This guide covers the faults we see most often on both brands in Kolkata homes, what causes them, and when a repair is genuinely worth it.

Why LG and Samsung units fail differently

Both brands are well built, but they age in slightly different ways. Samsung’s ceramic-enamel cavity resists staining and is easy to clean, but the door interlock switches and the touch membrane are the parts that most often wear out with heavy daily use. LG units — particularly convection models — tend to see more grill and convection element failures, along with the cooling fan and the magnetron in older machines.

What both share is a sensitivity to Kolkata’s humidity and voltage fluctuation. Moisture and heat cycling are hard on control boards, and an unstable supply shortens the life of the high-voltage components. A stabiliser is a small investment that meaningfully extends the life of a convection microwave.

The faults we see most often

Runs normally but does not heat

The turntable spins, the light is on, the timer counts down — and the food stays cold. This almost always points to the high-voltage circuit: the magnetron, the high-voltage diode, the capacitor, or the transformer. This is not a do-it-yourself repair under any circumstances. The capacitor in a microwave can hold a lethal charge long after the appliance is unplugged, and it must be discharged safely by someone equipped to do it.

Sparking inside the cavity

Usually one of three things: metal in the oven, food residue that has carbonised on the cavity wall, or a burnt or peeling waveguide cover. The waveguide cover is a small mica panel and is inexpensive to replace — but running the oven with a damaged one can go on to damage the magnetron, which is not inexpensive. Stop using the appliance and get it looked at.

Turntable not rotating

Usually the turntable motor, the coupler, or debris in the roller ring. This is one of the cheaper repairs and is generally worth doing on any working microwave.

Touch panel unresponsive or keys not registering

Typically a failed membrane keypad or, less often, the control board. Steam finding its way behind the panel over years of use is the usual culprit.

Door not closing or oven not starting

Microwaves use several interlock switches so the unit cannot run with the door open. When one fails, the oven refuses to start. This is a safety system working as intended and should never be bypassed.

Loud noise while running

Often the cooling fan or the magnetron. A noticeable change in the sound of a microwave is worth investigating early.

Repair or replace?

A repair is usually worth it when the cavity and door are sound and the fault is a single component — turntable motor, fan, waveguide cover, keypad, interlock switch or a grill element. Replacement is the more sensible option when the cavity has rusted through, when the door or hinge is damaged in a way that compromises the seal, or when a magnetron fails on an entry-level unit already well past its warranty. On a mid-range or convection model, a magnetron replacement is often still the better value, and we will tell you honestly which side of that line your machine falls.

Servicing both brands at your doorstep

We carry out LG microwave service in Kolkata and Samsung microwave repair in Kolkata for solo, grill and convection models, at your home. Most diagnostics and common repairs are completed on site; only a fault requiring bench work on the control board would need the unit to be collected.

We also service IFB, Whirlpool, Panasonic, Godrej, Electrolux, Onida and Sharp — see our full microwave service page for details.

Four habits that prevent most microwave repairs

  • Never run it empty. With no food to absorb the energy, the magnetron absorbs it instead. This is the fastest way to destroy a microwave.
  • Cover your food. Most sparking faults begin as splatter baked onto the cavity wall and the waveguide cover.
  • Wipe the cavity while it is still slightly warm. Residue lifts easily then and sets hard once cold.
  • Keep the vents clear. A microwave pushed flush against a wall or tucked into a tight cabinet runs hot, and heat is what kills control boards.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair LG and Samsung microwaves at home?

Yes. Most LG and Samsung faults are diagnosed and repaired at your address. Only work needing a bench, such as a control board repair, requires the oven to be collected.

Are you an authorised LG or Samsung service centre?

No. We are an independent repair service and are not affiliated with either manufacturer. If your oven is still under warranty, use the brand service centre first.

What information do you need about my microwave?

The brand, the model number from the sticker at the back or inside the door frame, and a clear description of the fault.
